Banasura Hill is the second tallest mountain in Wayanad district. This magnificent mountain lies 25km away from Mananthavady and 37km away from Kalpetta. Banasura, which is a part of Western Ghats lies 2030m (6660 feet) above sea-level. Katumala, another hill here, is 1200m tall. Three types of trekking are allowed here. 1) A 3-hour trekking for a fee of Rs.750; Each team consists of maximum ten people along with a guide.2) A 5-hour trekking for a fee of Rs.1200, again with a maximum 10 members along with a guide. 3) Full day trekking: - The fee is Rs.1500 with only five members in the group along with a guide. The trekkers can enjoy themselves from 8 in the morning to 6 in the evening. Those who spend 5 hours instead, during the 3-hour trekking, will have to pay an extra Rs.750 once they come down. Those who plan to go on trekking, should book a few days before the date. Always try to reach the spot early in the morning. Remember to book early if you are planning for a full day trekking. Food should be brought along because there are no facilities here. But camping with permission is allowed.
