It is the smallest bird sanctuary in Kerala. Although not as big as the Thattekkad bird sanctuary in Ernakulam, it is the only one with many varieties of mangroves. Situated at the heart of Kochi city, this island is a nestling ground for many migrating birds and has trees and mangroves in abundance. You can also find different species of spiders and bats here. This sanctuary was opened by the Kerala government in the year 2004 and is considered an ecologically sensitive area. The new buildings and structures that have come up lately is causing hindrance to birds’ movement across the region. This bird sanctuary is situated behind the Ernakulam High Court, next to the old railway station. An incredible spot in the busy city which you must visit along with your family to bask in the glory of nature.
