The Rosary church which is situated in Shettihally village in Mysore was built around 150 years ago. This magnificent church lies under water for almost 6 months in a year. Built by French missionaries in the year 1850, this beautiful monument lies in Shettihally village on the way from Mysore to Hassan in Karanataka. When the Hemavathi dam was built in 1960, the church came under the reservoir area. Prior to the construction of the dam, this region was known for its Sunflower fields. During the monsoons and when the reservoir is near to its brim, the Shettihalli church is nearly submerged except for its top most spire. It lies half emerged during August-September but by December and during the dry season, one can actually walk in and around the church and enjoy its beauty. Apart from its idyllic settings, it is also a haven for migrating birds. Though not a very well-known tourist spot, this church and its ruins present a spectacular sight. This location is also ideal for landscape photography. The rich colour and hues that this place offers are eye candy for anyone with a wide-angle lens.  Make it a point to visit this church if you are travelling through Belur-Halebid tourist area. Since it is a small village, don’t forget to pack your food and water.
